Our Story

Our Story

Sohar Titanium (FZC) L.L.C., located in Sohar Freezone, is the first titanium slag production facility of its kind in the region, with an annual capacity of 150,000 metric tons. The project is a strategic partnership between Minerals Development Oman (MDO), Dubal Holding, and TI International under Gulf Titanium. Production is driven by three advanced 25.5 MVA electric arc ore-thermal furnaces, enabling consistent high-quality output for global industrial applications. The company is progressing toward full operational ramp-up, targeting commercial shipments in Q2, Q3 2026.

Located in the heart of Oman's industrial hub, Sohar Freezone, we proudly introduce Sohar Titanium (FZC) L.L.C. as the forefront producer of Titanium slag. With an impressive annual production capacity of 150,000 metric tons, we stand as a significant player and the first of its kind in the Sultanate of Oman.

Our production process revolves around the operation of three electric arc ore-thermal furnaces, each boasting an impressive capacity of 25.5 MVA. This innovative approach enables us to consistently deliver high-quality titanium slag, catering to diverse industrial needs and demands. We are diligently working towards the full ramp-up milestone. The project development started in 2022, currently the project is in progress, all 3 furnaces will be in operation by the end of 2026, aligning with our commitment to delivering exceptional quality and service within our anticipated timeline. Titanium is a naturally occurring element, and its primary source are various titanium minerals found in beach sands, rocks and ancient riverbeds..

Our Shareholders

Sohar Titanium project is a strategic partnership between Minerals Development Oman (MDO), Dubal Holding and TI International through a special purpose vehicle Gulf Titanium.
MDO is an investment arm of Oman Investment Authority (OIA). MDO invests and develops projects in mining and metallurgy.

Dubal Holding

An investment arm of Government of Dubai, Dubal Holding, is a significant shareholder in Emirates Global Aluminium (EGA), a fully integrated aluminum smelter facility located in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). EGA ranks as the 4th largest aluminum company globally.

MDO (Mineral Development Oman)

MDO operates as a subsidiary of the Oman Investment Authority (OIA), which is the sovereign wealth fund of Oman. MDO's primary focus revolves around the promotion of mining resources within Oman. It also maintains an interest in strategic investments within the minerals and metals downstream industries.

TI International

TI International DMCC is a Dubai based investor through a special purpose vehicle “Gulf Titanium DMCC” invested in the Sohar Titanium (FZC) LLC. The promoters of the TI international havewith a robust presence spanning over 30 years and a global players in titanium value chain. The group has experience and expertise in mining of Titanium minerals, manufacturing of Special (master) alloys for titanium industry, ferro alloys manufacturing and marketing worldwide.

Leadership

Abdulla Jassem Mohammed Bin Kalban
Chairman

CEO and Managing Director of EGA, with a long career starting from trainee level to leading major aluminium sector operations. Holds multiple leadership roles including Chairman of Guinea Alumina Corporation, Gulf Aluminium Council, OSE Industries, and Sohar Titanium, and serves on several UAE government and corporate boards.

Abdulla Jassem has held the position of Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer at EGA since its establishment following the merger of DUBAL and EMAL in 2014. His association with EGA dates back to its inception, and he actively contributes to the organization by participating in three board committees. Mr. Kalban's journey began when he was appointed as Chief Executive Officer of DUBAL in 2005, a role he later expanded into as President and Chief Executive Officer in 2008.
Mr. Kalban's commitment to EGA and the aluminum industry started with his humble beginnings as a graduate trainee at DUBAL in 1985. Over the years, he has demonstrated remarkable dedication and leadership.
Furthermore, Mr. Kalban plays pivotal roles in several prominent organizations. He holds the position of Chairman at Guinea Alumina Corporation, the Gulf Aluminium Council, OSE Industries, and Sohar TITANIUM FZC LLC (Oman). He also serves as Vice Chairman of DUBAL Holding and Etihad Water and Electricity Company. In addition, he sits on the boards of Dubai International Financial Centre Investments, Dubai International Financial Centre Authority, and Hamdan Bin Mohammed Smart University. His active involvement extends to the Supreme Council of Energy in the UAE.

Nasser Saif Khalfan Al Maqbali

Nasser Al Maqbali is a seasoned executive and entrepreneur with a proven track record of leading billion-dollar projects and organizations. As the CEO of MDO, he has demonstrated a remarkable ability to create and successfully deliver results. Before assuming the role of CEO at MDO, Nasser Al Maqbali held leadership positions in both the private and public sectors in Oman. With over 30 years of experience, he has acquired a wealth of knowledge and expertise, making him highly proficient in shaping and executing corporate strategies.
Mr. Al Maqbali earned his undergraduate degree from Salford University in the UK and pursued a master's degree in civil engineering with a specialization in risk management at Adelaide University in Australia. His educational background has equipped him with a strong foundation in engineering and risk management.
In addition to his role at MDO, Nasser Al Maqbali serves as a board member for several prominent companies, including Omran Hospitality Company, Tourism and Real Estate Development Company, Duqm Frontier Town Development Company, and INSOFOM Manufacturing Company. He also holds the position of Deputy Chairman at Al Baleed Company, further demonstrating his leadership and commitment to various organizations.

Mattar Salim Ali Al Badi
Vice Chairman

Mattar Al Badi is the Chief Executive Officer of Minerals Development Oman (MDO), the national investment arm for the mining sector in the Sultanate of Oman. With over 15 years of global leadership experience in the mining industry, he is recognized for his strategic vision, operational excellence, and ability to drive transformative growth in resource-rich economies. Prior to joining MDO, Al Badi held several senior leadership roles at Vale, one of the world’s largest mining companies, most notably serving as Chief Operating Officer in Oman. His career spans key segments of the mining value chain, including iron ore pelletizing, logistics infrastructure, operational performance, and culture-driven institutional transformation. He is credited with delivering significant improvements in productivity and safety while strengthening stakeholder partnerships. At MDO, Al Badi is leading the transformation of the company into a premier mining investment group focused on exploration, development, and long-term value creation. He is also driving efforts to forge strategic partnerships, embed environmental, social, and governance principles, and position Oman as a responsible and attractive mining destination. Al Badi is a strong advocate for sustainable resource development and regional collaboration. He brings a deep understanding of how the mining sector intersects with governance and long-term economic impact. His leadership reflects a commitment to building resilient institutions aligned with national priorities and global best practices.

Ahmad Bin Fahad

Investment expert with 20+ years of global experience in business development, mergers & acquisitions, and joint ventures. Previously senior roles held at Istithmar World Ventures, Millennium Finance Corporation, and Etisalat International Investment. I am holding an MBA and BSc from Boston University.

Ahmad Bin Fahad is a seasoned investment professional with over twenty years of global investment experience, specializing in Business Development, Mergers and Acquisitions, and JV Structures. Before joining Dubal Holding, he served as Chief Executive Officer at Istithmar World Ventures, Managing Director at Millennium Finance Corporation, and Chief Investment Officer at Etisalat International Investment. Mr. Fahad also gained experience in New York with Longwing Ventures. Academically, he holds an MBA in Finance from Boston University, USA, a BSc in International Business Management from the same institution, and a Post Graduate Research Degree from the Institute of Islamic Finance, UK.

Kingsley Letter
Chief Operating Officer

Kingsley Lotter is currently appointed as the COO at the ilmenite smelting plant in Sohar (Oman). He started his career in the pyrometallurgical process in 1983 with exposure to numerous different smelting processes ranging from Steel, Aluminum, Ferro Silicon, Calcium Carbide and ilmenite smelting for the last 31years. During his career he has been exposed to significant furnace and process improvement designs and always focusses on increasing throughput. He progressed through the ranks in this industry and concluded his career as General Manager prior to taking a sabbatical before joining the team in Sohar Titanium. He currently holds a BCom and MBA degree obtained from Stellenbosch University, South Africa.

Mr. Yousuf Bastaki is a distinguished leader in the aluminium and construction industries, with a career spanning over 30 years. Renowned for his expertise in project management, engineering, and business administration, he has been instrumental in managing multi-billion-dollar projects and driving the global prominence of UAE-based companies in the aluminium sector. During his three decades at Emirates Global Aluminium (EGA), Mr. Bastaki played a crucial role in transforming the company into a global billion-dollar enterprise. His visionary leadership and strategic contributions were pivotal in positioning EGA as one of the world’s foremost aluminium producers. In addition to his tenure at EGA, Mr. Bastaki has earned widespread recognition for his service on numerous multinational corporate boards and his advisory roles with government entities. His invaluable experience and remarkable achievements have solidified his reputation as a key figure in the global business landscape.

Shashidhar Yelandur Sethumadhavachar

Shashidhar Yelandur is a Business Development Advisor at DUBAL Holding – a wholly-owned subsidiary of Investment Corporation of Dubai (ICD). As an advisor on Business Development & Investments with specific focus on Non Ferrous Downstream and Recycling / Sustainability segment, the prime responsibilities include conducting research on new opportunities & approaching potential partners for JV, Team member in green field project development, working with teams on carrying out Due Diligence w.r.t Market, Commercial & technical aspects on potential acquisition targets as well as Monitoring & Advising the management on status of current on-going projects , updating on monthly performance overview of portfolio companies as well as work with the CXO team of portfolio companies in devising their broader strategy / road map as well as annual business plans etc. Shashidhar has around 25 plus years of professional and managerial experience in business research , competitive benchmarking, corporate growth strategy , business planning etc mainly w.r.t assisting startups, medium and large companies & family groups in Middle East in supporting them towards development of growth, business, market entry, marketing, competitive, distribution and customer strategies. He is presently on the board of couple of Aluminium Downstream portfolio companies in the Extrusion Sector viz OSE Industries – Dubai & Thermalex Inc – USA besides being the Board Member of Sohar Titanium as well as Chairman of the Financial & Commercial Committee of Sohar Titanium. He has a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree from University of Poona & also a Bachelor of Engineering in Electronics & Communication from Mysore University- India.

Ma'an Abdullah Salim Al Salmi
Board Member

Head of Business Development at MDO with experience ranging from international energy ventures to national industrial investment. Leads feasibility studies, partnerships, and portfolio performance, and represents MDO on subsidiary boards.

Musabah Humaid Said AL Hamdi
Board Member

Musabah Humaid Al Hamdi is Head of Projects Development at Minerals Development Oman (MDO), where he leads the company’s project development and QHSE functions, establishing investment frameworks, governance systems, and research and innovation initiatives. With over 19 years of experience across the energy, utilities, and mining sectors, he has held senior leadership roles in project development, operations, and strategy, delivering large-scale projects such as the USD 2.7 billion Sohar Refinery Expansion, the USD 6.4 billion Liwa Plastics Industries Complex, and a USD 400 million national water security project.Musabah holds an MBA with distinction from the University of Strathclyde, a BSc in Chemical & Process Engineering from Sultan Qaboos University, and is certified in PMP and P3GP. His executive education includes Oxford Scenarios Programme at Saïd Business School, University of Oxford, the Etimad National Leadership Development Programme (Columbia Business School & MIT) and advanced leadership programmes with the John Maxwell Co. He is an active member of professional associations including PMI and AACE. Passionate about leadership, innovation, and sustainable development, Musabah is committed to advancing Oman’s industrial and economic growth.

Jasim Al Salti

Jasim Al Salti possesses advanced expertise in financial management and strategic planning. Currently holding the position of Finance Manager at Minerals Development Oman, he graduated with honors in Finance. Additionally, he fulfills the role of Board Member at Sohar Titanium and Ahjaar Mining Company. His previous experience includes employment at Haya Water SAOC, the Ministry of Endorsement and Religious Affairs, V2 Trenching & Company LLC, and Star Shipping Services & Co. LLC.

Sandeep Mishra

Sandeep Mishra is a seasoned professional with varied accolades to his credit. He is on the Board of Services & Trade Group of companies. Services & Trade Mining Investment Co. LLC, Hydrocarbon Finder LLC, Services & Trade Marble & Mining Limited, Tanzania. In 1988, joined TATA Steel, subsequently acquired experience through multiple roles across various corporate functions in TATA Steel, Mitsubishi Corporation (New Delhi & Tokyo), Jindal Steel- USA, Suhail Bahwan Group & Shanfari Group of Companies in Oman. Sandeep Mishra holds an MSc in Economics from the London School of Economics (LSE). Before entering the corporate world in 1988, had a short stint with the Planning Commission, Govt. of India and with the World Bank, Mission in New Delhi as Consultant Economist.

Dr. Jugendra Singh Raghav, an accomplished individual with an extensive background, embodies a remarkable blend of international collaborations, business acumen, and genuine friendships. Born in 1959, he embarked on his journey from India to USSR in 1979. He pursued his studies in Agriculture and successfully completed his PhD project during this time. Dr. Singh has many years of experience working with trading companies in different countries and gained lot of marketing experience. He founded in the beginning of 90's Stork International, later on Stork Group of companies. The Stork Group has been engaged in the titanium value chain. Dr. Singh is serving as Managing Director of the Stork Holding and serves as the Board Member of the several group of companies.

Board Advisor and Chief Commercial Officer

32 years (28 years in Titanium Related Fields) of extensive experience through strategic leadership in the Mining, Mineral Processing and Metallurgical Industry. As the Director of the business development and Senior Vice Chairman of the Stork group, had the responsibility of business development strategy, coordinated with all the group companies to develop the right teams, monitor the business activates, set the business targets and achieve them. As a part of Sourcing & marketing of industrial minerals and metals worldwide, established with the world majors in the pigment industry long term business relationship and supplied several millions of tons of titanium ores on long term contracts. Developed projects from the concept to execution through various cross functional teams Experience in handling the complete project operations (Heavy Mineral Sands) entailing planning, resource utilization & manpower management.

With over 18 years of progressive leadership experience across complex and capital-intensive industries, including steel, aluminum, petrochemicals, and oil & gas. He brings deep expertise in financial strategy, corporate governance, business transformation, and operational finance, with a proven track record of building robust financial frameworks, optimizing performance, and supporting sustainable growth. An MBA holder, Ahmed is recognized for his strategic mindset, strong stakeholder engagement, and ability to partner with executive leadership to drive value creation, operational excellence, and long-term financial resilience. His strategic vision and financial acumen continue to contribute to Oman’s thriving energy and industrial landscape.

Fahad Al Kindi
Projects Director

Fahad Al Kindi is an accomplished Project Director with over 21 years of experience in project management, engineering, and construction. He has successfully led and contributed to various industrial projects, including aluminum smelters, steel pellet plant, and petrochemical plants. Fahad’s expertise includes setting project objectives, managing budgets, mitigating risks, and ensuring effective communication among stakeholders. Currently, he is managing Sohar Titanium Project, leveraging his strong leadership skills and technical knowledge to drive project success. He holds an Executive MBA from the University of Bedfordshire and a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from Sultan Qaboos University.
